Fifth Pocket

Fifth Pocket for iPhone

In development. iPhone first. Here is exactly what it will and won't do at launch.

What it does

  • Lock with a pattern. The pattern is the key; we never see it and never store it.
  • Encrypt everything. AES-256-GCM for every photo and video, thumbnails included. Nothing readable on disk, in your phone backup, or in iCloud.
  • Give you a recovery key. Shown once at setup, for you to save or print. Forget your pattern and the key gets you back in. Lose both and the vault is gone; that is what encryption means.
  • Back up to your own iCloud. Encrypted copies in your iCloud Drive, on by default, with a "last backed up" line you can see. Delete the app, reinstall it, enter your pattern, and it is all there.
  • Import and export. Pick from Photos; originals are removed from Photos only after the encrypted copies are written and backed up. Export puts anything back in Photos at any time.
  • Stay quiet. Locks the instant you leave the app. No thumbnails in the app switcher, no notifications, no widgets.

What it costs

Free for your first 50 items, with everything above included. One lifetime unlock removes the cap. No subscription, no trial, no premium tier.

What it doesn't do at launch

No decoy vault, no break-in photos, no disguised icon, no albums, no sharing, no Android. Some of these will come if enough people ask. Each will be free to anyone who has bought the unlock.

Fifth Pocket is coming to iPhone. Real encryption, a recovery key so you can't be locked out, and one price you pay once. Want to know the day it's out?
